A Happy Anniversary?

Image
Greetings All! First, if you haven't already, check out the last post from when Steph and I visited my parents for the weekend. Some pretty cool stuff there. Alright! So Tuesday the 5 th was Steph and I's second anniversary. We went to Big Bear and spent the night at a bed and breakfast called Knickerbockers. For those who may not be too familiar with Big Bear, it is a lake high up in the mountains that's fairly famous for its skiing but is a fun place any time of the year with plenty of hiking, biking, wildlife and water sports . Below is a picture of Big Bear. The next picture is a picture of the Knickerbocker mansion. This was a rustic cabin built in the 20's by one of the first people to live in Big Bear. He maintained the dam that supplied the orange groves in Redlands with water. After Steph and I arrived and settled into our room, the first adventure we undertook was a mountain biking excursion. The Knickerbocker boarders a national forest, and there wer...

Account of a Weekend

Image
Steph and I went down to my parents place in Oceanside for the weekend because my sister is leaving for Wisconsin on Thursday to go to law school and we wont have a chance to see her again for a while. First thing we did was go to the beach. It was sunny and warm at my parents place, but there was a pretty nasty marine layer at the beach, so it wasn't all that sunny (as you can see). I went in the water for a bit and did some body surfing, but I was the only one to really go in. In case you're curious, that is the pier with Ruby's at the end. Excellent restaurant . My parents took us out for dinner for our anniversary (on the 5 th ...aka tomorrow), and on the way back from the restaurant we stopped at a little automotive museum they had on Camp Pendelton . This place is only about 2 miles from my parents house, but we had never stopped there. It was pretty interesting. Even the girls who didn't really want to stop got rather excited when we found out the hatch was o...

Visiting home (Michigan)

Image
I (Stephanie) had a wonderful visit with family and friends in Michigan. We celebrated Tracie's birthday, and as you'll see, I really enjoyed being with all the animals again. Tracie's making this face because the wind blew out her birthday candles before she could! Ellisa riding Donavon and me riding Mintse. Sheila's puppy Joxer gives Oreo a nice kiss. Happy 20th Birthday Tracie! We ate at Johnny Carino's, and afterwards had cake at home. (I made the cake) Derek and I went to the river with Willy and Frex. Willy got busy chasing ducks and such, but Frex went in the river with us. I love the shake picture. :) Thursday morning I got in a last ride on Mintse before cleaning up and heading to the airport. Mintse is a joy to work with. Unfortunately, my return to California didn't go so smoothly. I made it to Chicago alright, but then got stranded in Chicago overnight because United canceled my flight. I did make it home this morning without too much trouble...

Happy Independence Day!

Image
This afternoon and evening I was at a party hosted by our friends Mike and Becca. We had lots of fun in the pool, as you can see in this video. In the video, Brandon demonstrates a fancy jump, and you can see Ein barking in the background. Ein got quite worked up whenever there was splashing or people went underwater. We had a nice supper together from the grill, and finished off the evening by watching the fireworks from downtown. Happy Independence Day everyone. Stephanie

Ein's strange swelling: episode 2:

Image
Last night Ein's lip randomly started swelling again. This is the second time this has occurred. The only thing I can think of that might have caused it was the yogurt I gave him, because I think I may have given him yogurt last time it happened as well. Of course it could also be some type of bug bite. It's very strange. I gave Ein some children's benadryl, and the swelling went down. He looks normal again now, but he sure did look funny last night! I had an extremely busy day at work, and I'm exhausted, so I'm going to bed! Stephanie

We spent Father' s Day weekend with Kevin's parents. On Saturday, we watched a bit of the mud run at Camp Pendleton, and then went to the "Wild Animal Park" in Escondido. Here are some of the animals we enjoyed: Kevin's favorite, the California Condor Sleeping lion cub Giraffe and baby giraffe a cheetah Okapis A young gorilla being a nuisance to an older gorilla a portion of the mud run. Kevin is interested in running this 10k with muddy portions and obstacles next year. Unfortunately, I now have strep throat....again! That's the 3rd time in about 9 months! I'm missing two days of work, but I'm already feeling a bit better. -Stephanie
