Mountain Adventures

Tracie and Nathan arrived in LAX last Monday to spend Spring Break with us in California. After driving back to Redlands and eating lunch at the apartment, I (Stephanie) took Tracie and Nathan to Big Falls in Forest Falls for a little hiking and climbing. We were surprised to see so much snow at a relatively low elevation in late March. At home, Ein provided some of the entertainment, with help from Kermit. Tuesday, we drove up to Big Bear with intentions of hiking up to Castle Rock. It turned out to be too snowy to find the actual trail, so we basically wandered around on the snow with Ein. short-sleeves in snow are one thing, but sandals?

Wednesday I (Stephanie) took Tracie and Nathan to the world-famous San Diego Zoo. It was an exhausting 5+ hours on our feet, but we saw lots of wonderful animals. Here's a sample of some of the best: It was fun to see the gorilla baby riding on his mom's back. As is often the case, the big silverback dominated the food. Monkeys are fun Check out the neck on this turtle! Beautiful Tiger Okapis the Giant Pandas are a zoo favorite. Mama is below, and Daddy above Lion King stars Pumba the warthog, and a hyena. Timon the meerkat to follow. Meerkats are always some of my favorite animals to watch. They are so funny and expressive! Dromedary camels The red tree kangaroos are so cute!! of course, the koalas probably take the prize for cutest of all African Elephant look - an R.O.U.S.! (rodent of unusual size)....I don't remember what they're really called giraffes of all sizes Back at home on Friday, we hung around Redlands. We needed a more restful day. Ein got along r
